[08 JAN 00] MATCH REPORT - NBL DIVISION ONE
Westminster Warriors (44) 81
Coventry Crusaders (47) 94The
BUPA Coventry Crusaders defeated the Westminster Warriors 94-81.
The Warriors came out strong and
dominated the game for the first few minutes while the Crusaders struggled offensively
moving the ball around and defensively moving their feet.
The Crusaders came alive and drove to the
basket drawing the fouls and taking it to the hole. The half ended with the Crusaders up
47-44.
The highlight of the game seemed to come
late in the second half when the Crusader bench came in and built a 15-point lead while
the Warriors folded.
Alvin Scott came in and made four quick
points back to back and Marvin Livingston pulled up for a three and finished a fast break
with an easy lay-up. Colin Rhooms and Pierre Bonneau shut the Warriors down defensively
and Rhooms earned the majority of his ten points in this run.
But it wasn't over yet for the Crusaders
as the Warriors made a slight comeback and came within eight points with six minutes to
go.
Although the Crusaders dominated the
majority of the game the Warriors deserve a pat on the back as they never let up.
All Crusaders scored during the game
while five Crusaders were in double figures with Rick Solvason leading with 25 points,
Mark Bradbury with 15 points, Derrick Pope with 12 points, Matt Donaldson with 11 points
and Colin Rhooms with 10 points.
Derrick Pope also led in rebounds and
steals with 7 for each.
Kevin Penny injured his finger during the
game and will be out for approximately 4-6 weeks.
