Coventry Crusaders
continued their winning streak in a showcase game at Kings Lynn on
Saturday.
Crusaders and Kings
Lynn traded leads a couple of times during the first quarter, with three
pointers flying in from everywhere. Fury’s Laurence Summers managed to
score a cool 11 points in ten minutes of play with three 3-pointers,
while his team mates hit another three between them.
Crusaders Sam Oatman,
Scott Neely, and Marcin Twierdzinski also contributed three pointers in
the opening period, and kept the trend going throughout the game, as
Coventry hit 11 and Kings Lynn sunk 12 three pointers over all.
If the first quarter
belonged to Fury, leading 25-24 at the 1st interval, the
second quarter swung in favour of Crusaders, as veteran Rick Solvason
went on a scoring campaign after he subbed on mid-way through the
period.
It was Solvason’s
turn to light up the scoreboard as he had his best night since returning
to Crusader kit, sinking 12 points including 3 three pointers during the
second quarter alone.
Kings Lynn stayed
right in there throughout the second, only trailing by 4 at half time,
50-54 and with Summers already on 21 points.
The third quarter
was when Fury started falling behind, as Neely and Solvason combined to
score 21 points between them, with great support from Twierdzinski and
Oatman.
By the end of the 3rd
Crusaders had edged to an 86 – 69 lead, and they managed to hang onto
that lead throughout the low scoring fourth quarter. Both teams seemed
to have run out of offence by then, Crusaders scoring 10 points to
Fury’s 12.
Crusaders were happy
to take the win home with them 96-81 in what player/coach Dip Donaldson
called “an overall great team performance”.
-
“With four guys
scoring double figures, moving the ball well, and looking for each
other, we were patient with our ball movement and Solvason gave us a
big boost coming off the bench and putting in 20 points like that.

Oatman did a
good job of keeping his team mates involved, which made it difficult
for Fury to defend. Anytime you get four players in double figures
you know you are getting good ball movement.”
