Coventry
Crusaders have agreed to coach the newly promoted Coventry University
basketball team for the forthcoming season.
The
university became British University and College Sport Midlands Division
2A champions last season, and have been promoted to Division 1A this
year, and now the Crusaders are looking to help move the Midlands Cup
finalists up into the Elite League, which is the highest standard of UK
university basketball.
The
university team, which is coached by Coventry University Basketball
President Geoff Ryan, is a multi national set up which accommodates
players of all abilities; enabling players to develop into their own.
Although
rules dictate that an enrolled student must be running the club, coaches
from external organisations are allowed to come in and perform coaching
aspects.
John
Olinger, who is expected to return to the Crusaders this season subject
to a successful Visa application, is being touted as a possible
candidate to take up the role of coaching.
Although
practice times won’t be announced at the Coventry University Sports
Centre until late September when students return to campus, their
website points out that it is usually a week day evening for team
training, and every Saturday from 4-7pm for beginners.
The
Crusaders have benefited from their link with the university over the
years, with Kane Hudson and Dan Taylor being two of the most notable and
recent recruits from the university.
