Coventry
Crusaders’ sister charity group the Crusader Foundation is hoping to
deliver the Hoops for health initiative to at least double the amount of
schools that it did last season.
The
primary and secondary school initiative, which involves Crusaders
players combining basketball sessions with talks about the effects of
smoking, drinking and eating junk food, came to Coventry when the
Crusaders carried out a pilot scheme which was delivered to eight local
schools back in January.
The club
received encouraging feedback from all eight schools who would like to
be involved again, and as a result popularity has soared to leave the
club with the possibility of taking on sixteen schools.
“This year
the goal is to do at least sixteen” confirmed Crusader Foundation
Director Scott Neely, who is awaiting a decision on how much local
funding will be available in order to see if it’s possible to surpass
delivering sessions to the sixteen schools.
“It’s not
necessarily based on the demand, because all of the schools would to
come back as they feel it’s a great programme, it’s more on is there
funding available to help make it happen” he concluded.
