Saturday
the 19th of September saw the first ever League meeting of the Coventry
& Warwickshire Youth League with 3 teams taking part: Coventry
Tornadoes, Coventry Crusaders & Blossomfield Hoops, at the Coventry
Sports & Leisure Centre.
The League has been set up with help from Coventry Sports Centre;
Coventry Council & the Warwickshire Basketball Association, for
Basketball players who want to play competitive Basketball within the
club that they are in.
Also it
enables clubs who don't play at National League level to enter into a
League where there are competitive games. The League is open to any club
with any standard of player and we have started with 2 age groups, the
U12s & U14s of mixed gender teams.
The first League meeting on Saturday saw 90 players taking part,
with refs & Table Officials. The Coventry & Warwickshire Youth
Basketball League not only aims to give players a chance to play
competitive Basketball that would not normally have a chance, but it
also aims to give new/young Refs & Table Officials an opportunity to
gain practical experience and also be assessed if there is a need to
qualify for their awards.
The Results of the first League meeting were as follows:-
U12s
Blossomfield Hoops 22 vs 20 Coventry Crusaders
Blossomfield Hoops 6 vs 48 Coventry Crusaders
Coventry Crusaders 6 vs 52 Coventry Tornadoes
U14s
Coventry Tornadoes 56 vs 20 Coventry Crusaders
Coventry Tornadoes 30 vs 6 Blossomfield Hoops
Coventry Crusaders 20 vs 14 Blossomfield Hoops
The League is running initially for 10 weeks as a trial period. After
this a review will be made and any changes that may be needed will be
implemented.
After the
initial 10 weeks, a further 10 weeks will be arranged to start in
January. The plan is to expand the league with more teams at the age
groups that we have presently, but also at some point to add an U16 age
group to the league.
