SHOOT-A-THON 2009

By Adam Manning

The Crusader Foundation will be looking to raise £3,500 for the club’s youth teams when they stage their “Shoot-A-Thon” fundraising initiative at the Grace Academy on Friday 13th November.

The event which is now in its second year, will see each member from the Crusaders senior, U18 and U16 sides throw 100 free throws each at the hoop.

Last year was considered a success by Foundation director Scott Neely, who only started up the promotional event last year, and has set the fundraising amount considerably higher to test how much of an impact the event can give the club this season.

He  said: “This is the 2nd year the event has been running and approximately £1,000 was raised from the inaugural event. The main aim is for our U18's and U16's to help raise financial support for their season via the Shoot-A-Thon and to allow family, friends, or neighbours to know about the Crusaders and their involvement with basketball on the national league level”.

“The event will take place at Grace Academy and they are very supportive of our programmes. Last season Subway gave us food for the event and we are seeking their support again this season but not yet confirmed”.

“A target of £3,500 has been set this year for the youth teams programmes” added Neely.

Donations can either be made in a fixed amount by sponsoring a player, or you can decide to donate an amount per successful throw.

If you wish to make a donation, go to www.justgiving.com/crusader-shoot-a-thon , or contact the club directly by going to the “contact us” section on this website.
