 Mets Post Match Reaction

Crusaders head coach Scott Neely hinted his disapproval at what was a disappointing performance from his team.

He said: “I’m very disappointed that we had 14 turnovers at half time.

“Our aim is to have 12 or less in the whole match, so that tells a huge story right there because they got ten more shots from the two-point line in the first half than we got.

“So they get more shots, they’re going to have more points.

“Because we’re a small team, we need to find the people that we’re going to block out early, which means before they get inside the three second area, we need to find them to actually try and block them out and then go get the ball.

“A lot of times we just looked when the shot goes up and then they’re right there, and then it’s a matter of who’s stronger, who’s taller, who can jump higher, and right now that’s not us.”

Neely admitted that there were few positives to take from the game, saying: “I’ll have to process it, we’ve got the videotape, take a look, but generally I saw what I did.

“There are some things we executed well, but then actually we didn’t make the shot. So we executed, got the shot we wanted, and then we didn’t make it. That, to me, goes back to not being sharp mentally.”

In contrast, Mets player-coach Solomon Ayinla was pleased that his team were starting to move back towards their better early-season form.

Ayinla said after the game: “It’s all about getting a good start and then playing together. We moved the ball really well today. We did that in the beginning of the season, and we’re starting to do it again, which is good.”

Ayinla also set out ambitious plans for the season ahead whilst stating his belief at the tight nature of the Division One league this term.

“In the beginning, we set out to try and finish in the top four. We’re still going to try to achieve that, because right now it looks like Manchester and Derby are going to finish one and two,” he said.

“But from three to six and eight, the teams look real balanced. Leeds, us, Leicester, Leopards, and then you never know, Coventry, Teesside, Sheffield might bring in some new players, and it’ll be a new ball game.”
