Double defeat for Crusaders youths

By Adam Manning, Crusaders Press Officer.

Both of Coventry Crusaders’ youth teams fell to defeat last Saturday in what has been a disappointing start to the season for the under 18s and the under 16s.

The under 18s lost 46-84 to Doncaster Danum Eagles in Coventry on Saturday afternoon while the under 16s were on the wrong end of a 100-34 thrashing at Notts Nova.

The results have epitomised the way the season has panned out so far, with just one win being recorded between the two sides – a 68-65 home win for the under 18s against Ilkeston Outlaws on 23 October.

Following the postponement of their home game with the Leicester Blaze last Saturday and a 44 point defeat in their last game at Northants Thunder, Crusaders under 18s made a positive start against the Midlands Conference league leaders, notching 18 in the opening quarter to trail by just three points.

The fighting spirit was undone in the remaining three quarters though as Coventry had no reply to Doncaster’s onslaught – Crusaders scored just twelve in the next two quarters compared to Donny’s 41.

Elsewhere the under 16 boys’ wait for their first win of the season goes on longer as they experienced the unfortunate case of a double-digit defeat up at Nottingham.

The under 16s registering their lowest ever points scoring for an opening quarter, just four points, set the tone for the match as Notts extended their lead the more the game wore on.

Fans have one last chance to catch some of the Crusaders youth action before the Christmas break – the under 18s host Notts Nova Centurion on Saturday 11 December at the Coventry Sports & Leisure Centre – tip off is at 2:15pm.
