Defeat at Brixton.

By Adam Manning, Crusaders Press Officer.

Coventry Crusaders weren’t able to build upon a four point half time lead as they went down 87-78 at Brixton Topcats on Sunday afternoon.

It’s the first time Roger Payne’s men have suffered back-to-back league defeats this season as they slip to second from bottom in National League Division One with a 1-3 league record.

A twelve man squad travelled down to London with high hopes of containing Topcats to three point shooting.

Forward Pierre Henry-Fontaine returned to the side after missing the last game at Durham a fortnight ago due to work commitments, and Crusaders old boy Dave Edden made a return to the fold.

Even though Crusaders were the more clinical of the two teams – making 50 per cent of their field goals to Brixton’s 39 per cent, the game plan of containment slipped away as the game opened up in the second half.

Brixton had far more chances on the inside than Coventry – Topcats created 84 field goal chances compared to Coventry’s 62.

Keep checking www.crusaders.co.uk to read coach Payne’s take on the Brixton game, and what he expects from the up and coming home game with Manchester Magic this Saturday (7:30pm).
