Coventry withdraw from Division One

By Adam Manning, Crusaders Press Officer.

Coventry Crusaders team-talk after Bristol defeat United:         Inset: Crusaders' first-team after what is their final game in Division One after 19-years.

Coventry Crusaders Basketball Club is sad to announce that its senior men's team has withdrawn from National League Division One for the remainder of the 2010/2011 season.

Head coach Roger Payne was bankrolling the first-team this season, but has run out of funds after the club was unable to attract a sponsor for the remaining of the season.

Payne, who informed the players of the news yesterday, said: "Unfortunately I have had to withdraw the team from the league.  Even up to two hours ago I was trying my best to get sponsorship but was unsuccessful."

The withdrawal ends Coventry's 19-year stay in National League Division One, and if the team is to reconvene next season then it will be Division Four basketball at the Coventry Sports Centre.

Crusaders' last game was the 72-80 home defeat to league leaders Bristol Academy Flyers last Saturday which left them bottom of Division One with a 3-10 record. They were due to play host to mid-table Brixton Topcats tomorrow night.

Keep checking www.crusaders.co.uk for reaction from coach Payne, and a statement from Crusaders managing director Robert "Dip" Donaldson.
