Cadets Aim To Stop Sparks Flying

The Crusader Cadets open up their season at home on Saturday when they welcome Leicester Sparks to the Coventry Sports Centre.

The side made up entirely of Coventry youngsters aged 14 – 16 made their first appearance last season at National League level.

Coached by former Crusader favourite, the legendary Alvin Scott, the youngster’s preformed well last season against tough and experienced opposition.

As the youngest team in the league, week after week they turned out against teams that towered above them and were at the upper age of this age group category.

Undeterred Crusaders dug in and by the end of the season were producing some good and promising performances.

Being so young last season means that the majority of the squad remain eligible to play this season, including the four members who were selected to represent West Midlands, Tim Donaldson, Sydney Donaldson, Bryson Pope and Matt Wood.

Bryson and Tim along with Kane Hudson, and Andy Brookes have already been in action this season, as part of last week’s Under 18 team.

With this level of talent in his squad, Alvin Scott feels confident about his Crusader Cadets and all are looking ahead to a good 2004/05 campaign.
