04] CRUSADER BOYS TEAM NEWS Crusaders Cadets In Control
Coventry Crusader 101 West
Herts. Warriors 65
With another outstanding
performance Coventry Crusader Cadets gained their fourth victory of the season
on Saturday evening.
Their comfortable 36 point
winning margin saw Crusaders not only destroy West Herts. Warriors unbeaten
record. It saw Crusaders take sole control of the National League
Central Conference.
Prior to the game Warriors rested
in second place to the Coventry youngsters, split only by Crusaders far superior Points
difference.
But after the final buzzer it was
Crusaders that remained the only team still unbeaten this season.
Top scoring for Crusaders with 31
points was Bryson Pope.
Having dominated at both ends of
the floor throughout the game; Coach Alvin Scott is impressed with the great
leadership Bryson is starting to show on court.
Out of the twelve man squad ten
made it on to the scoreboard.
This includes five who produced
scores in double figures and both James Hobday and newest signing Ash Malhtra making their
first points of the season.
A lot of credit for this has to
go to Point Guard Kane Hudson who as well as producing 11 points of his own, distributed
the ball well throughout the team.
A number of this seasons Cadets
have been stepping up into the Junior squad, amongst them is Sydney Donaldson and two
weeks ago Syd produced 30 points for the Juniors against West Herts.
Warriors Juniors, and this week
Syd took 19 points, nevertheless it was his three long range shots from four attempts in
the third quarter helped seal victory long before the final quarter.
Basketball is not just about
scoring points and Crusaders have a great defence, in fact their pressing defence is the
trademark of their game and against Warriors as always, right at the heart of that defence
was Luis Romero.
Luiss speed and agility
makes him a formidable defensive opponent and on numerous occasions it was he that
forced Warriors to turn over the ball.
Even with a couple of his players
unavailable for their next fixture Coach Scott remains confident that his side can do the
business when they welcome Cambridge Cats to the Coventry Sports Centre next Saturday (20th)
Ricardo Gordon is another key
player that Scott will be relying on very heavily this time around The small forward has
had a great start to the season and is definitely a player to keep your eye on! His
high percentage finishing around the basket hurts teams.
Against West Herts. Ricardo
netted 13 points and his Coach is confident Ricardo can repeat that against Cambridge,
although Cambridge are a team that have yet to show their season
potential, as having forfeited three of their first four games they are languishing in
basement position.
They
did however give West Herts. a run for their money two weeks ago but its yet to see
if the Cats are mere Kittens when it comes to Crusaders.
