Crusaders 44 - Colchester United 37

The Crusaders continued their league form this Saturday with an impressive win over Colchester United.

This gives them maximum points since Christmas and takes them to nine wins in ten games. With four games remaining they are now firm contenders for the playoffs and promotion to Division Two.

The Crusaders starting five were unchanged from their last match with strength in every position. The first quarter saw the scoring spread between Bri Tierney, Paul Claridge, Justin Gibson and Sho Ayub getting the points rolling and the game off to an explosive start. The United team were equal to the task and matched the point tally to end the first quarter up by one 8-7.

The second period was the same with both teams matching excellent shooting against aggressive defence. The half ended all square 19-19.

The third period saw a surge in scoring from Sho Ayub with 10 of the Crusaders 16 points which could not be matched by the Colchester team. This was due to devastating finishing and accurate supply passes close in.

The Crusaders went into the last period 35-25 up. They slowed the game and kept the defence tight. The United team battled hard and managed to break the Coventry defence a few times but were not able to get back into the game.  The final score was 44-37 to the Crusaders.

In summary Coach Claridge is quoted,

"This was a good win and a great all round team performance. We have quality players in every position now and a bench which is so strong.

We've got a big weekend coming up with 2 games including a top of the table clash against Stratford, so we need to keep this momentum going!"

Crusaders 'Most Valuable Player' was Sho Ayub with top score of 16 points.

Next weekend sees the Crusaders entertaining the Stratford Players at home in a top of the table clash on Saturday the 28th Feb Tip off 11.30 City College Tile Hill. Then on Sunday the team travels to London to take on the Wasps at Greenwich University.

Crusaders Scorers:

Bri Tierney  1, Neill Gardner 2, Adam Crinage 2, Carl Leeth 2 , Justin Gibson 6,  Paul Claridge 15  Sho Ayub 16
