Dan Oliver
A Brief Introduction To Dan Oliver
After being invited to train with the Crusaders at the
beginning of the season, 23 year old guard Dan Oliver is delighted to have earned his move
up into the Crusader squad as a registered player in the National Conference.
Dan's registration came just in time to beat the English
Basketball Association deadline on the 31st January 2002.
Born and brought up in Coventry, and now working as a full
time youth worker with the Youth For Christ Organisation here in the city.
Dan will be a familiar face to numerous youngsters in the
Crusader crowd, as his work makes him a frequent visitor in many of Coventry's secondary
schools.
The former Blue coats pupil has played basket ball since
Dip Donaldson arrived in Coventry and The Crusaders started their schools and community
programme.
Rising up through the Crusader Junior teams, along side
former Crusaders Ben Livingston and Robert Clarke.
Dan played for Bristol University whilst studying
engineering there, before returning home to Coventry.
He has been playing Warwickshire League Basketball for the
past 18 months since recovering from surgery to his shoulder.
As a member of the Coventry Fly, Dan has played along side
team mates Ed Baynes- Clarke and Manny Sharland. The 5 ft 10 inch guard describes himself
as "a good role and team player, with a good mental understanding of the game and an
ability as an outside shooter."
Dan continues to train with the team although it is still
to be decided when he will make his court debut.
His inclusion in the squad gives coach Dip Donaldson more
depth and strength to the squad. It also re kindles the healthy competition amongst the
players to perform in training to earn their playing position. |
