Crusaders first outing in the GBWBA Division 3 Central
league was successful despite fielding a depleted squad due to the
temporary absence of key players due to injury and holiday.
As always the game with the Maulers was a friendly
experience. Despite the score line, possession was fairly even with
Maulers just failing to convert the majority of their early attempts at
basket.
Steve Jeremiah started the scoring for Crusaders in the
1st quarter, with Sahial Ahmed, Sho Ayub and Carl Leeth getting their
names on the score sheet several times during the game. 12 year olds
David Arundell and George Jeremiah represented the junior members very
well with some good defensive moves, against a team of much older
players.
Crusaders took the lead in all 4 quarters with the final
quarter being the most hotly contested as the Maulers finally clicking
in a couple of quick moves in the key to bring the quarter score to 8 v
6.
11 year old Ashton Challenor made his debut as the
team’s table official, showing the Academy’s commitment to development
in all aspects of the sport.
