Crusaders last home game against league champions Bury Bombers saw the loss of their unbeaten home record.

David and George managed to make the game despite only getting home from Barcelona late Saturday by ferry after their flight was grounded by the volcano but faced another volcano in Hugh Anderson, who brought his super league experience to bear on all.  They again shone with Frankie joining them in sterling defence work, but Anderson was too quick and agile for any of the team to contain him.

Steve and Sho led the Crusader scoring with Paul taking to the court in the second half as Coach Batty attempted to provide some defence against the Anderson blitz but even Carl’s third quarter offense and Sahial’s three pointer in the dying minutes of the game were not sufficient to dent the Bombers lead.

Anderson started and finished the scoring in the game and accounted for over half the Bury points (45) proving unstoppable throughout the match.  He was ably supported by Amy Conroy with 13points, working well in the key.  J Newton with 16 points and good defensive play was critical in interceptions.  The rest of the Bury points were split between Aiden Hughes and L Jones.

Despite their disappointment, the whole Crusader squad moved on to deliver an demonstration of wheelchair basketball at its best at the Warwickshire League’s Festival of Basketball, later that day.  Joined by some of our outstanding youngsters, Charlotte Moore, Cameron Swann, Joshua Jeremiah and the ever smiling Sammy Rehman, plus another of our league team Juniors Ashton Challenor (who tables our home fixtures) the squad split into two teams to show a packed stadium at Warwick University that wheelchair basketball  is an exciting, skilful and inclusive sport.  In a closely fought exhibition game, coach Batty got on court and led the reds to victory.
